Cosy Comedy From the Arctic: North of North Returns to Netflix

Not every comedy needs a big city skyline. Some of the warmest laughs of recent years came from a tiny fictional town in Nunavut, Canada. North of North charmed viewers with its first season, and the series returns to Netflix on Thursday, November 5, with eight new half-hour episodes.

Anna Lambe is back as Siaja, the young Inuk mother who turned her life upside down at the end of season one. Now comes the harder part: building something better. This season she tries to grow step by step instead of leaping without looking, pushing her boss at the community centre for bigger responsibilities while also hunting for clues about a half-sister she never knew existed.

The new episodes promise plenty of small-town chaos. A tourist-friendly mask dance gets out of hand, a water crisis forces Siaja to team up with her newly discovered father, and a speed-dating night in the community hall goes about as smoothly as you might fear. Everything builds toward a Winter Ball that Siaja fought hard for, just as a huge storm rolls in.

If you want the full episode rundown and a closer look at the returning cast, there is a detailed North of North season two guide worth a read.

In our directory, North of North stands out because it feels genuinely specific. The jokes grow out of real community life in the North, and the heart of the show lies in three generations of women who love each other loudly and argue just as loudly. It is funny without being cruel and warm without becoming sugary.

If you are looking for something light for the darker November evenings, this is an easy recommendation. Grab a blanket, make some tea and spend a few hours in Ice Cove.
