When a beloved anime returns after four years, fans usually expect to pick up where they left off. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 takes a braver route. All ten episodes arrived on Netflix on October 20, and the season starts over with new characters, a new voice cast and a visibly changed animation style, while keeping the neon chaos of Night City.
The story follows Weak, a former star mercenary who has lost the implants that once made him famous and now drifts through a city that has forgotten him. Alongside him runs the path of D, a nomad chasing revenge who keeps stumbling toward corporate secrets that were meant to stay buried. What ties it together is the narrator, Roman, a twelve-year-old would-be filmmaker recording these damaged adults on an old, grainy digital camera. That small, personal viewpoint gives the show a way to question all the spectacle around it.
Studio Trigger handles the animation again, this time with Kai Ikarashi directing in place of Hiroyuki Imaishi, while Bartosz Sztybor returns as showrunner and co-writer with Masahiko Otsuka. Early reactions point to bold visuals and a soundtrack that reportedly features The Cure.
The full cast list and more on the new characters can be found in this Edgerunners 2 release overview.
Our directory verdict: newcomers can start right here, since neither the game nor the first season is required. Returning fans should go in ready to say goodbye to familiar faces. Either way, keep in mind that the series is violent and meant for adult viewers, and plan for a long night, because ten episodes go quickly.
