Back to the Owens House: Is Practical Magic 2 Worth a Home Rental This October?

Few films own a season the way Practical Magic owns October. Almost three decades after the 1998 original turned into a sleepover staple, the sequel has moved from cinemas to living rooms. Warner Bros. put Practical Magic 2 on premium digital on October 13, 2026, through storefronts such as Prime Video, Apple TV and Fandango at Home. On Amazon a rental runs $19.99 and a purchase $24.99, with 48 hours to finish once you hit play. Disc collectors have to be patient: 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD editions arrive on December 1, complete with featurettes on the folklore research behind the film.

Susanne Bier directs, and the big draw is obvious. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman return as Sally and Gillian Owens, and this time the family curse threatens the next generation. Sally has kept the family’s witchy roots from her grown daughters, Kylie, played by Joey King, and Antonia, played by Maisie Williams. When Kylie’s boyfriend falls into a coma, she heads to England looking for a spell that could end the curse, and mother and aunt follow. Lee Pace joins the cast. The film runs 130 minutes and carries a PG-13 rating.

In theaters it did solid business, opening to about $30 million domestically in September and reaching roughly $104.7 million worldwide. Critics say it leans hard on nostalgia, yet the sisters’ chemistry still carries it. No HBO Max date is set, though a year-end arrival seems plausible.

Prices, platforms and release details are gathered in this guide to watching Practical Magic 2 at home.

Our directory pick: if the original is part of your autumn ritual, the rental is a fair price for a cozy night in. Newcomers should watch the 1998 film first.
