The Skate franchise has earned just about as much of a reputation as the Tony Hawk games at this point, and it seems like a no-brainer that EA would want to capitalize on its popularity sooner rather than later. Fans had probably given up on the Fable series and that was probably fair as it did seem dead. In the run-up to E3, though, rumors began swirling, with Fable 4 being talked up as leaks emerged. Naturally, there was an expectation, especially with the Microsoft crew informing us beforehand that they would have lots in store at the event. They were certainly telling the truth about that, but we imagine lots of Fable fans were let down by the complete blank.

So, while the lack of official news on Fable lingers, there’s still quite a lot to get excited about. Gears of War 5 , for one, will be launching on September 10 this year along with a novel multiplayer mode called Escape . Fans with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will get to play the game four days earlier, as well as those who purchase the ultimate edition.

Unfortunately, Lionhead closed down, taking many hearts along with it. However, prior to the culmination of business, the cancellation of the asymmetrical multiplayer title Fable Legends saw to the loss of popularity to some degree. Players work on a space ship that has gone dark. People are missing and something feels amiss. You quickly realize that terrifying monsters roam the empty halls of the Ishimura space ship. The player character is prey for this entire game. Enemies crawl out of vents in dim lighting while all you have are a few shots of your pistol and the character’s spine to diagnose your health. It was brilliant for the time and still holds up, but it is an IP EA has sadly put on ice.

Reboots have become more common recently, bringing older titles to modern audiences with some tweaks and innovations to hold its own. This is usually done for more big-budget titles like Call of Duty , but underrated franchises that never got a large following would benefit greatly from this. Ranging from cult classics to more modern titles, here are 10 underrated franchises that need a reboot.

From the brilliant minds at Bloober Team, developer of Layers of Fear 2, Blair Witch , and the previously mentioned Observer: System Redux comes a new original next-generation psychological horror, The Medium . Haunted by a vision of a child’s murder, players control Marianne, a medium that’s living between two different worlds: the real world and the spirit world, and must find answers in an abandoned hotel resort. For the creation of The Medium ‘s soundtrack, Bloober Team has chosen to collaborate with Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka in an effort to reflect the Adventure Game Dlc’s theme of duality. It is hard to talk about Driver: San Franciso without mentioning how hard it is to obtain. This incredible driving game from Ubisoft can only be obtained through sketchy grey-market websites or through pirating a copy.

So, maybe Fable is being kept under wraps for now but a mere comment from Spencer would have been enough to calm concerns over whether or not the game is in development. Of course, enough reputable sources have reported that it is, which is enough to go on, but hearing confirmation from the man himself would have left fans of the franchise more than pleased.

TimeSplitters is a light-hearted FPS title that revolves around time travel and the results that can have on the past, present, and future. While the story frequently makes jokes and pokes fun at itself, the gunplay is incredibly tight and hearkens back to an older generation of shooters in a good way. Superb multiplayer kept players engaged for hundreds of hours after the campaign was over, and the in-depth map editor made every multiplayer game different from the last. With the recent trend of remaking older classics, there is no reason TimeSplitters shouldn’t get a reboot.

With the large amounts of video games releasing today, both from indie developers and AAA studios, not every game is destined to be a hit. Bad timing, underbaked mechanics, or unfulfilled promises can all result in a forgotten series.
